Red Dead Redemption on PC

With Rockstar delaying Red Dead Redemption 2 till 2018, your time to replay the original has been extended. Now in an ideal world Rockstar would bring all 4 of the games in the series to PC, they did such a good job with Grand Theft Auto 5 and it’s not as if they don’t have the funds to do it. Since it’s unlikely that any of the Red Dead Series will ever make it onto PC (except that RPG on facebook “Red Dead Redemption: Gunslingers“), why make this article? Well what if I told you that there is a way for you to play the console exclusive game on your PC.

Enter Playstation Now(PS Now).

PS Now is a game cloud based gaming service that allows PC users to stream certain PS3 and PS4 titles straight to their PC. While this isn’t as good as having the full game on PC because of this systems many drawbacks, it does allow a whole new audience are able to enjoy the fantastic works of Rockstar.

A selection from PS Now’s library.

How to set this up?

  1. Go to this URL https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/playstation-now/.
  2. On the bar at the top (the one with “Playstation now” written on it), click on “PS Now on PC”.
  3. Click the “Download Now” button on that page.
  4. Once the installer has downloaded, run it.
  5. Go through the installer.
  6. Sign Up to the Playstation Now service (7 Day free trial, €16.99 per month after that)
  7. Away you go, play Red Dead Redemption (or any of the other games on there).

Drawbacks

So I mentioned there are some drawbacks:

  • It’s always online, and all your save data goes online to PS Now servers.
  • There’s no way to play with the video settings, so you have to play with PS3 quality (which doesn’t look the nicest). However this might be good if you want to play on a lower spec laptop or gaming PC.
  • You have to continually pay to play.
  • There is input delay between pushing a button and it happening.
  • You need a Duel-shock 3 or 4

Hopefully Rockstar will one day bring the Red Dead series to PC but until they do we are stuck trying to find workarounds to play the fantastic series.
